Ministerial Visit Highlights Progress at Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo Polytechnic

Zulu Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo Polytechnic had the distinct honour of hosting the Honourable Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development, Frederick Shava, during an official visit on the 26th of March 2026. He was accompanied by the Deputy Minister, Simelisizwe Sibanda, the Permanent Secretary, Fanuel Tagwira, and the Director of Tertiary Education Programmes, Mr. Danga M C. The purpose of the visit was to assess the progress made on the construction of the institution’s new Home Economics Block, a state-of-the-art facility set to be officially commissioned on a date to be advised by His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa. During the tour, the Minister expressed great satisfaction with the level of progress achieved thus far. He commended the institution and all stakeholders involved for their commitment to excellence and adherence to high construction standards. The Honourable Minister emphasized the importance of maintaining quality workmanship and meeting set deadlines, particularly in light of the upcoming commissioning by the President. The new Home Economics Block is expected to significantly enhance the institution’s capacity to deliver practical and industry-relevant training. In addition to modern learning facilities, the block will also include guest quarters, further strengthening the Polytechnic’s infrastructure and its ability to host academic and professional engagements. In the course of the visit, the delegation also proceeded to inspect the site designated for the construction of the main campus of Gwanda State University. The inspection was conducted in the presence of the university’s representatives, who provided insights into the development plans and progress on the ground. This development marks a significant milestone in the expansion of higher education infrastructure in the region. The visit underscored the Government’s continued commitment to advancing education, innovation, and skills development in Zimbabwe, in line with national development goals. Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo Polytechnic remains dedicated to providing quality education and contributing meaningfully to the country’s socio-economic transformation.
